17-Year-Old Motorcyclist Dies in Southwest Lincoln Crash.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A 17-year-old motorcyclist has died following a collision with an SUV on Southwest 23rd Street on Tuesday afternoon.

Emergency responders were dispatched to the intersection of Southwest 23rd Street and South Street just before 2:45 p.m. According to the Lincoln Police Department (LPD), a 69-year-old woman driving a red 2011 Buick Enclave was preparing to turn left when she was alerted by the sound of a speeding motorcycle.

As the woman initiated her turn, she noticed the motorcycle approaching. The motorcyclist, riding a blue 2019 Yamaha, lost control and laid down the bike, sliding over 100 feet before striking the SUV’s driver’s side door, according to LPD. The motorcycle continued sliding for nearly 400 feet.

The teen was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. He was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead several hours later. The motorcyclist’s identity is being withheld pending family notification.

LPD indicated that speed is a suspected factor in the incident. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact LPD at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
