19-Year-Old Killed and Another Teen Seriously Injured in Nanjemoy Minibike Collision.

NANJEMOY, Md. – A serious motor vehicle collision occurred on Monday, June 15, 2026, at approximately 11:21 p.m. on Maryland Route 224 near Wilson Landing Road, involving two minibikes.

According to authorities, a 2021 minibike operated by a 16-year-old male from Nanjemoy was traveling southbound when it collided head-on with a 2018 minibike driven by 19-year-old James Thomas Claggett, also from Nanjemoy. Both operators were not wearing helmets at the time of the crash.

The 16-year-old was flown via MSPAC helicopter Trooper 7 to Capital Region Hospital with serious injuries. Claggett was airlifted to MEDSTAR Washington Hospital Center, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Both minibikes were unregistered and lacked headlamps for proper visibility. The Maryland State Police advanced collision investigator, TFC A. Sabock, is overseeing the ongoing investigation, which will be forwarded to the Charles County State’s Attorney’s Office for potential charges.
