Towanda Motorcyclist Killed in Collision with Truck
Sheshequin Township, Pa. — A 20-year-old Towanda man died Friday in a motorcycle crash involving a truck, according to state police.
Levent K. Van Helden was riding a 2020 Kawasaki motorcycle south on Sheshequin Road around 6:30 p.m. on August 28 when a northbound 2027 Kenworth truck, driven by 52-year-old Matthew J. Shellenhamer of Lititz, turned left in front of him, police said. The impact resulted in Van Helden being fatally injured at the scene; he was wearing a helmet.
Shellenhamer continued a short distance before stopping on a dirt road off Sheshequin Road; he was uninjured. Authorities noted that Shellenhamer was using a lap and shoulder belt during the incident.
No charges have been reported at this time, and an investigation into the crash is ongoing. Lane closures were in effect while emergency responders attended to the scene.
