VERO BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — A 25-year-old motorcyclist died in a crash on Eighth Avenue at 21st Street in Vero Beach on July 17.
According to the Vero Beach Police Department, the motorcycle rider was involved in a high-speed incident that led to a collision with a concrete utility pole.
Officers responded to the scene after receiving reports of a deceased person in the grassy median at approximately 2:41 p.m.
Investigators identified the motorcycle as a 2008 Honda CBR1000. Video footage revealed the rider entered Vero Beach city limits around 12:30 a.m. and was traveling at 113 mph when passing through the intersection of 15th Place and U.S. 1, approximately half a mile from the crash site.
Authorities concluded that excessive speed was the only factor contributing to the accident.
The Vero Beach Police Department has issued warnings about the dangers of riding motorcycles at high speeds, emphasizing the reduced protection for riders.
The agency stated, “This is a tragic reminder to please drive safely and adhere to the posted speed limits on the roadways.”
Authorities have not released the victim’s name as the investigation continues.
This incident underscores the severe consequences that can result from excessive speed while riding.
