CAMPBELL COUNTY, Va. (WSET) — A dump truck collision fatally injured a 27-year-old motorcyclist on Campbell Highway on Tuesday afternoon.
According to Virginia State Police, the incident occurred around 2:41 p.m., approximately one mile north of the Suburban Road intersection. The motorcyclist, identified as Spensir Wood from Rustburg, was traveling north at an excessive speed when he lost control and struck the stationary dump truck.
Authorities reported that Wood was pronounced dead at the scene due to his injuries. In addition, the motorcycle caught fire post-collision, but the Rustburg Fire Department was able to extinguish the flames.
Northbound lanes of Campbell Highway were closed during the emergency response, which included the Virginia State Police and local fire units. The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
