A motorcyclist died from injuries sustained in a crash in Eagle River on Saturday night, according to the Anchorage Police Department.
The collision occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m. in the 10900 block of Old Glenn Highway, involving a BMW motorcycle and a truck, police reported.
The incident took place near a Glenn Highway exit leading to Eagle River’s downtown area.
The motorcycle ignited upon impact, sliding across the road. Witnesses reportedly helped remove the rider from the flames.
The motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital in critical condition but succumbed to his injuries on Sunday afternoon. His identity was not immediately released.
Both lanes of the Old Glenn Highway near Artillery Road remained closed until 3 a.m. as investigators processed the scene.
This incident marks the third fatal motorcycle accident in Southcentral Alaska in four days.
On Wednesday, a motorcyclist died in a collision with an oncoming vehicle in East Anchorage. The following day, another motorcyclist was killed in a crash with a pickup truck in Sterling, Kenai Peninsula.
