65-Year-Old Phelan Man Dies in Motorcycle Crash on 15 Freeway Near Barstow.

A motorcycle crash near Barstow on July 1 resulted in the death of a 65-year-old man from Phelan, authorities said.

The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on the southbound 15 Freeway, south of Barstow Road, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

Investigation revealed that the motorcyclist was operating a 2002 Suzuki and attempted to change lanes into a space occupied by another vehicle, striking the left rear of a tractor-trailer.

The impact ejected the rider into the No. 2 lane, where he was later transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. His identity remains undisclosed pending notification of next of kin.

The CHP offered condolences to the victim’s family and confirmed no other injuries were reported.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but authorities stated that DUI is not suspected to be a factor.
