Driver Charged After Fatal Collision with Lawn Mower in Avoyelles Parish
A fatal accident occurred on Louisiana Highway 1 on October 3, when a truck collided with a man riding a lawnmower on the shoulder.
According to Louisiana State Police, Rickey G. Maddox, 59, was on the lawnmower when 34-year-old Romero H. Roberto lost control of his truck, veering onto the shoulder and striking Maddox.
Emergency responders transported Maddox to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Roberto, who was not injured in the crash, was reportedly not wearing a seat belt. Authorities suspect impairment was a factor in the incident and have collected toxicology samples for analysis.
Following the crash, Roberto was arrested and charged with several offenses, including Vehicular Homicide, Driving While Intoxicated (First Offense), and Careless Operation. He was taken to the Avoyelles Parish Detention Center.
The Louisiana State Police continue to investigate the incident.
Authorities remind drivers to avoid impaired driving, ensure seat belts are worn, and minimize distractions on the road.
