Motorcycle Crash on I-395 Claims Life of Alexandria Man
ARLINGTON, VA — A motorcycle crash on the southbound HOV lanes of I-395 near the Pentagon resulted in the death of a 61-year-old man on April 13 around 3:30 p.m.
William D. Whiteside, of Alexandria, Va., collided with an Express Lane gate, sustaining serious injuries. According to Virginia State Police, CPR was administered on-site by officers and subsequent Arlington medics. Whiteside was transported to an area hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and authorities have not confirmed if another vehicle was involved. The HOV lanes were closed for an extended period while officials documented the scene.
As a result of the incident, traffic was significantly affected in the area. Witnesses reported a secondary crash in the main lanes near the same location, causing further lane blockages.
Virginia State Police are handling the investigation, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
