SCHOOL STUDENT KILLED IN SUMMERVILLE CRASH
SUMMERVILLE, GA — A 15-year-old Armuchee High School student died in a motorcycle crash on Dry Creek Road Thursday afternoon.
Elijah Espy was riding a Honda dirt bike northbound around 4:15 p.m. when he collided with a southbound Tesla driven by a 61-year-old man, according to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP). The Tesla turned left into a driveway, leading to the accident.
Espy was thrown from the bike, landing approximately 80 feet from the point of impact. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigations indicated contributing factors such as weather, sight distance, and the absence of headlights on the dirt bike. The Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is currently investigating the incident.
Armuchee High School expressed condolences via social media: “Our hearts are broken as we mourn the loss of one of our own.” This marks the second traffic-related death of an Armuchee student within a month, following a tragic accident on September 9 that postponed a scheduled football game.
The Chattooga County Coroner’s Office and GSP continue to investigate, with more details to be released as they become available.
