A Royal Oak attorney faces charges in connection with a fatal hit-and-run motorcycle crash in Fraser.
Edward Michael Nahhat, 64, was arraigned in the 39th District Court in Roseville. He is charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in death, giving false information to police, and committing a felony with a motor vehicle, according to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office.
Nahhat allegedly struck 48-year-old Julie Fathbruckner of Roseville while she was riding a 2005 Harley Davidson motorcycle on Utica Road near Mulvey Road. Witnesses reported he fled the scene post-collision.
Emergency services responded, and Fathbruckner was transported to a hospital where she was pronounced dead. Authorities identified Nahhat as the driver after a detailed investigation and reported that he provided misleading information during questioning.
The judge set Nahhat’s bond at $100,000 and scheduled a hearing for Oct. 7. He is required to wear a GPS tether and surrender his driver’s license if released on bond.
If convicted, Nahhat could face a maximum of five years in prison for the hit-and-run charge and up to two years for lying to authorities. A court may also impose penalties on his driving privileges.
“Any loss of life is tragic,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido. “Drivers must stop and assist those involved in accidents.”
