Fatal Crash on U.S. 16 Claims Life
A 29-year-old man was killed in a single-vehicle accident on U.S. 16 near Ten Sleep on August 2. Authorities identified the victim as Matthew Hoffman.
According to the Wyoming Highway Patrol, Hoffman’s Volkswagen Beetle crossed the centerline, went over a guardrail, and rolled multiple times. Speed was cited as a contributing factor, and Hoffman was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Fatal Motorcycle Incident Near Cody
In a separate incident, a 72-year-old Canadian motorcyclist died on July 30 after failing to navigate a curve on U.S. 212 near Cody. The victim, identified as John Gallays, was thrown from his motorcycle after colliding with a delineator post and rolling down an embankment.
Authorities stated that driver inattention and a potential medical issue may have contributed to the accident.
ATV Rider Rescued in Bighorn Mountains
An injured ATV rider was rescued from the Bighorn Mountains on July 31 following a backcountry crash. Sheridan Area Search and Rescue reported that the rider was located, treated, and evacuated thanks to a coordinated effort including First Flight of Wyoming and the U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement.
Crews emphasized the importance of wearing protective gear and notifying others of ride plans.

Construction is ahead of schedule on the Kemmerer Wildlife Crossing Project along U.S. 189, with completion expected later this year. The $30.6 million initiative aims to improve wildlife safety and reduce collisions by up to 90%, according to the Wyoming Game and Fish Department.
