AUSTIN, TX – Austin Independent School District Police Chief Wayne Sneed was injured in a motorcycle accident during an official motorcade operation at 8:20 p.m. on Wednesday.
The collision involved two police motorcycles and occurred near U.S. 290 westbound at the MoPac service road ramp, according to the Austin Police Department. Sneed was en route from an Austin high school graduation when the accident took place.
Sneed was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A spokesperson for AISD expressed optimism for Sneed’s recovery, thanking first responders and the community for their support.
Trustee Kathryn Whitley Chu noted that Sneed’s recovery will be a lengthy process. “On behalf of the Austin ISD family, we are all praying for a speedy recovery,” she said.
Sneed has been the police chief of Austin ISD since 2022. Prior to his appointment, he worked in the district’s mental health and community engagement unit.
The investigation into the accident is ongoing, and no further details about Sneed’s health have been released.
