Biker dies in crash while attempting to evade police.

A motorcycle pursuit in Athens, Georgia, resulted in a fatal crash on Thursday, August 29, around 5:48 p.m., authorities confirmed.

The Oglethorpe County Sheriff’s Office initiated the pursuit, which ended in Clarke County, where a motorcycle collided with a vehicle on Lexington Road near Southeast Clarke Park. Athens-Clarke County Police reported they were not involved in the chase.

According to Lieutenant Jody Thompson from ACCPD, the motorcycle struck a Honda Pilot as it turned left onto Woodgrove Drive. The rider did not survive the impact. The Georgia State Patrol identified the motorcyclist as 36-year-old Brently Allen Tucker of Commerce.

Authorities said the motorcycle was traveling west at a high rate of speed when the collision occurred. Witnesses noted that Tucker was looking back at pursuing deputies and did not see the turning vehicle in time.

The deputy had discontinued the chase moments before the crash, according to Oglethorpe County Sheriff David Gabriel. “He apparently didn’t see the car turning in front of him until it was too late,” Gabriel stated.

The Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is investigating the incident. This marks the seventh fatality on Athens-Clarke County roads in 2024.
