BRIDGEWATER, SD – A 77-year-old woman died Tuesday in a crash at the intersection of Highway 44 and 435th Ave., authorities said.
Phyllis Ruth Golder, of Bridgewater, was driving northbound in a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox on 435th Ave. when she entered Highway 44 and was struck by a westbound 1996 Kenworth truck driven by 29-year-old Benjamin John VanRoekel of Armour, according to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
The collision occurred around 4 p.m. Golder suffered fatal injuries in the crash, while VanRoekel was uninjured. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.
Emergency responders arrived on the scene, and the investigation is ongoing. A stop sign is positioned for traffic on 435th Ave. where it intersects with Highway 44. Lane closures were reported following the incident for cleanup and investigation purposes.
