Bus Driver Indicted Following Fatal Virginia Crash

A bus driver was indicted Monday on additional charges related to a crash that killed five individuals in Stafford County, Virginia, on September 29.

Jing Sheng Dong, 48, of Staten Island, New York, faced a grand jury indictment that included three counts of involuntary manslaughter and one count of reckless driving, according to the Stafford County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office. He was initially charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter following the incident.

Authorities reported that Dong was operating a motorcoach traveling from New York to North Carolina when he collided with vehicles that had slowed for a work zone. Among the deceased were a family of four from Greenfield, Massachusetts, and a 25-year-old woman from Worcester, Massachusetts.

Dong remains hospitalized; he has a history of speeding incidents in Virginia and Maryland, including a conviction for driving 73 mph in a 55 mph zone. The bus involved in the crash, operated by E&P Travel Inc. of Kings Mountain, North Carolina, is under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board.

Prosecutor Eric Olsen confirmed Dong will be transported to jail following his release from the hospital. Court records do not indicate legal representation for Dong regarding the latest charges.
