Carson City Man Dies in I-580 Crash
Carson City resident Eric Burns, 38, died from injuries sustained in a vehicle collision on I-580 on February 7, 2025.
The crash occurred around 8 a.m. on the Galena Creek Bridge in Washoe County. According to the Nevada State Police Highway Patrol (NHP), Burns was driving a 2017 Subaru WRX northbound when he approached a previous accident site.
A Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District fire engine was on the scene with emergency lights activated, partially blocking the third travel lane. Witnesses reported that Burns lost control of his vehicle, which collided with the rear of the fire engine.
No injuries were reported among the firefighters or personnel at the scene. NHP’s Region Two Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating the incident.
As of 2025, the NHP Region Two has recorded five fatal crashes, leading to five fatalities. These figures are preliminary and may be updated following further investigation and coroner reports.
