A motorcyclist was killed in a multi-vehicle accident on westbound Interstate Highway 80 in Hercules, Contra Costa County, Saturday night.
The crash occurred around 11:30 p.m. when the motorcycle collided with a blue Honda CRV, ejecting the rider, a man in his mid-20s from Yuba City, who was then struck by another vehicle, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Dan Gilmore.
In total, 12 vehicles were involved in the incident, with two other individuals suffering minor injuries in the subsequent chain reaction. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, just west of Sycamore Avenue.
Westbound lanes were closed for approximately four and a half hours while authorities conducted their investigation. They partially reopened the highway after about an hour and a half.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation as of Sunday afternoon, Gilmore stated.
