Charges Filed in Fatal Wrong-Way Crash on Pennsylvania Turnpike

WASHINGTON TWP., Pa. — The Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office announced charges against 26-year-old Onanyeli Rosario-Mesa in connection with a deadly wrong-way crash on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

Rosario-Mesa, of Allentown, faces charges including homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence. An arrest warrant has been issued, but authorities report she remains at large.

The incident occurred on March 30 when Rosario-Mesa was allegedly driving southbound in the northbound lanes of I-476. She collided with a group of motorcyclists, resulting in the death of 50-year-old John Sweeney Jr. of Bristol, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators indicated that video footage showed Rosario-Mesa’s vehicle speeding past other vehicles that had pulled over to avoid a collision. Witnesses reported her speed was between 70 and 90 mph.

Authorities are asking anyone with information on Rosario-Mesa’s whereabouts to contact the Pennsylvania State Police or the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office.
