LACONIA — A motorcycle accident in Ohio has claimed the life of Charlie St. Clair, executive director of Laconia Motorcycle Week, who died on Aug. 22.
According to the Laconia Motorcycle Week Association, St. Clair succumbed to injuries sustained following a tire malfunction on Interstate 90 West in Avon, Ohio, on Aug. 4. He was en route to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally for the 50th time.
St. Clair was riding with a friend, who reported no other vehicles were involved. Emergency medical personnel were assisted by nurses who were traveling in a vehicle close by. St. Clair was hospitalized at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, where he remained until his passing.
The association expressed gratitude for the care provided by hospital staff and to the community for their support. They noted St. Clair’s significant contributions to Laconia, having served as a representative for seven years and leading the Motorcycle Week since 1991.
Local officials, including Rep. Mike Bordes (R-Laconia), lamented St. Clair’s death, calling it a tragic loss and highlighting his lasting impact on the community and the event.
The Laconia Police Department described St. Clair as a “pillar in our community” with a beloved presence during the Motorcycle Week.
