GRISWOLD – A motorcycle crash on Route 138 claimed the life of 56-year-old Delbert Lee Moore on October 3 at 4:14 p.m.
According to a report from the Connecticut State Police, Moore was traveling south on a 2026 Indian Scout Bobber motorcycle when he was struck by a northbound 2025 Honda CR-V Sport driven by a 66-year-old woman from Griswold. Authorities stated the SUV crossed into the southbound lane just before the collision.
Moore was pronounced dead at the scene. The SUV driver was transported to William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich for treatment of minor injuries.
The incident occurred just north of Sunset View. All southbound lanes were temporarily closed for investigation and cleanup. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities confirming no further details at this time.
Former colleagues remembered Moore as a kind and caring individual. “He was a friend to anyone he met,” said Lora Griffes, who worked with him at Millstone Power Station until his retirement in 2021. Earl Aker Jr., another former colleague, recalled their shared love of motorcycles and reflected on Moore’s supportive nature.
Moore served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years before retiring from his role as a security officer at Millstone. He was also actively involved in veterans’ organizations and a survivor of prostate cancer.
Funeral arrangements are pending, according to his family.
