Community Pays Tribute to UCVFD Firefighter Who Died in Motorcycle Crash.

STEVENSVILLE — An 18-year-old firefighter died in a motorcycle crash on Route 8/Romancoke Road on June 21, 2023, in Kent Island.

According to the QUEEN ANNE’S COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE, Tyler Hendrix, a member of the United Communities Volunteer Fire Department, was involved in the incident that led to his death. Emergency personnel responded shortly after 2:41 p.m. with multiple agencies on scene providing immediate medical aid.

Hendrix, a recent graduate of Kent Island High School’s Class of 2026, was remembered during a candlelight vigil attended by community members. A dignified transfer of his remains from Baltimore back to Kent Island took place, showcasing the solidarity within the local emergency services.

Hendrix joined the volunteer fire department as a cadet, showing a commitment to his community. He completed various training programs, including Firefighter I and II, Hazmat, and EMT certifications. He also worked as a marine technician at Top Notch Marine.

Fire department representatives stated that the loss is “immeasurable,” highlighting the significant emotional impact on his family and the community. Authorities have urged the public to keep the Hendrix family and his fellow firefighters in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
