Fatal Motorcycle Crash Near Gillette Claims Life of Powell Woman
A Powell woman died and her husband sustained serious injuries following a motorcycle crash east of Gillette on July 3.
Authorities said Denton and Alta Davis were riding a motorcycle pulling a trailer when their rear tire failed, causing them to be thrown from the bike. Both were reportedly wearing helmets.
Alta was airlifted to a hospital in Billings for emergency brain surgery after sustaining major injuries, including broken bones and severe brain damage. On Wednesday, family members announced she would not survive her injuries. A social media page dedicated to updates stated that she was an organ donor.
Denton was transported to a Gillette emergency room with rib injuries and a small brain bleed. After initial treatment, he was released and later joined family members in Billings.
As of Wednesday afternoon, a GoFundMe fundraiser initiated for the couple had raised nearly $9,000.
Family members described Alta as a dedicated teacher in the Early Head Start program, emphasizing her significant impact on the Powell community. Her niece stated the widespread support from the community during this tragedy reflects their strong bonds.
