Council Bluffs Police Release Details on Motorcycle Crash That Left Teen in Critical Condition.

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (WOWT) — A 17-year-old motorcyclist critically injured in a hit-and-run crash on Sunday is not expected to survive, according to Council Bluffs Police.

Police identified the 52-year-old driver involved in the incident but have not yet filed charges. Authorities stated that alcohol was a likely factor and have obtained a search warrant to test the driver’s blood for impairment.

“Warrants will be issued for his arrest after the toxicology results are complete,” police said in a release.

The crash occurred around 5:30 p.m. as the motorcyclist was stopped on North Broadway, preparing to turn left onto Hunter Avenue near Hoover Elementary School. A 2003 Chevrolet truck struck the motorcyclist before fleeing the scene.

The driver later contacted authorities to report the incident while at his home in the vicinity. The motorcyclist sustained critical injuries and is currently hospitalized.
