(WJAR) — Rhode Island State Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash on Route 6 in Johnston that occurred Thursday afternoon.
The crash took place at approximately 2:41 p.m. near the Interstate 295 on-ramp, according to authorities.
A motorcycle veered into the left shoulder, missing the on-ramp, then struck an earth-mound abutment before colliding with a highway sign.
The motorcyclist, identified as 59-year-old Nicholas Nevola of Cranston, was transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
A heavy police presence and lane closures were observed on Route 6 westbound during the investigation. No additional injuries were reported.
Rhode Island State Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
