Fatal Crash Claims Life of Crumpler Man in Ashe County
WEST JEFFERSON, N.C. — A 47-year-old man from Crumpler died in a single-vehicle crash late Monday night, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Troopers responded to the incident on Idlewild Road near Worth McNeil Road at approximately 10:30 p.m. on July 27. Authorities said a 2001 white Dodge Dakota pickup truck traveling north ran off the right side of the road. The driver overcorrected, crossed the road, struck an embankment, and overturned, resulting in the driver being ejected.
Eric Steven Rominger was pronounced dead at the scene. The Highway Patrol reported that speed was a contributing factor in the crash, but impairment was not indicated.
The roadway was closed for about one hour during the investigation. No charges will be filed in connection with the incident.
