Department of Public Safety Unveils Saturday Statistics from Sturgis Rally.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – The South Dakota Department of Public Safety issued its latest statistics from the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, reporting on incidents from Saturday into Sunday.

During this period, authorities confirmed 260 citations and 713 warnings were issued, an increase of eight and 121, respectively, compared to 2025.

Additionally, there were 21 DUI arrests, 32 misdemeanor drug arrests, and 14 felony drug arrests, nearly mirroring 2025 figures.

Four non-injury accidents were reported, with seven injuries and one fatality, marking a 50 percent decrease in incidents compared to 2025.

The fatal crash occurred Saturday afternoon near mile marker 35 on U.S. Highway 85. A 72-year-old man on a 2003 Harley-Davidson Electra Glide lost control after braking for another motorcycle.

He was subsequently transported to a local hospital in Spearfish, where he later succumbed to his injuries. An investigation is ongoing.
