Naples, N.Y. — A 53-year-old man sustained serious injuries after his motorcycle collided with a deer on County Road 36 Saturday evening, according to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities responded to the scene around 7:30 p.m. for a report of a single-vehicle accident.
Investigators determined that Charles Burpee, of Steuben County, was traveling southbound on County Road 36 when the incident occurred.
Burpee was initially taken to Thompson Hospital with life-threatening injuries before being airlifted by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital, where he remains in guarded/critical condition.
A section of County Road 36 was temporarily closed for accident reconstruction; the investigation is ongoing.
