Deputy Fatally Struck by Car During Funeral Procession.

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE/Gray News) – A motorcycle crash during a funeral procession on Airline Highway claimed the life of a deputy on Friday morning.

The victim, identified as 41-year-old Christopher Paul Ohlmeyer from River Ridge, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to officials.

Ohlmeyer was a Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy with 16 years of law enforcement experience, including 14 years with the agency. He is survived by his wife and two children.

The crash involved Ohlmeyer’s motorcycle and a sedan. The driver of the sedan was taken to a nearby hospital; their condition has not been disclosed.

Authorities stated that Ohlmeyer was performing an off-duty assignment as part of the funeral escort when the crash occurred.

The investigation is being led by the New Orleans Police Department, which is gathering evidence including video footage and vehicle data to reconstruct the incident.

New Orleans Police Chief Anne Kirkpatrick expressed condolences, emphasizing the close-knit nature of the law enforcement community and their support for Ohlmeyer’s family.
