Donaldsonville man arrested following crash that resulted in the death of three horses.

DONALDSONVILLE, La. (WAFB) – A Donaldsonville man was arrested following a hit-and-run crash on LA 70 that killed three horses on Oct. 24.

The three-vehicle incident occurred near the Sunshine Bridge around 8:30 p.m. One of the vehicles was transporting four horses; three of them died, including one that was euthanized, according to witnesses.

Louisiana State Police Troop A arrested 43-year-old Carlo Phillips on the morning of Oct. 25, said spokesman Trooper Shelby Mayfield.

Phillips faces charges of hit and run, careless operation, and driving under suspension. He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.

The horses belonged to Situated Riderz, a group dedicated to horse care after long working hours. They reported difficulties in locating emergency veterinary services on the night of the crash.

In response to the incident, Situated Riderz has launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover veterinary bills, repairs for the damaged trailer, and equipment expenses.

The crash is still under investigation by the Louisiana State Police.
