NORTH HERO, Vt. — A motorcycle crash on Route 2 on Sunday afternoon left one dead and another seriously injured.
The incident occurred at approximately 2 p.m. near Savage Point Road when a pickup truck crossed the centerline and collided head-on with two motorcycles, according to Vermont State Police.
Twenty-year-old Hunter Rounds of Grand Isle was pronounced dead at the scene, while his father, 51-year-old Jason Rounds, also from Grand Isle, sustained serious injuries and was transported to the hospital.
Authorities arrested the truck driver, 38-year-old Ellen Willson of St. Albans, citing her for gross negligent operation resulting in death and serious bodily injury. Willson is scheduled to appear in Grand Isle County Court on August 7.
According to Grand Isle State’s Attorney Doug DiSabito, initial investigations suggest there were no signs of impairment; distracted driving may have been a factor.
The roadway was temporarily closed to facilitate the investigation, which is ongoing. Witnesses are encouraged to contact the state police in St. Albans at 802-524-5993, option 3.
