LAKEPORT, Calif. — A solo vehicle crash late Wednesday night resulted in the death of a 28-year-old woman and injuries to three juveniles.
At 10:05 p.m. on October 4, California Highway Patrol (CHP) units were dispatched to a crash on State Route 29 near 11th Street in Lakeport. According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the deceased is identified as Destinee Marie Jones, 28, of Clearlake.
Witness reports indicate that the vehicle left the roadway and overturned. Emergency responders from the Lakeport Fire Protection District attempted life-saving measures on Jones but confirmed she died from her injuries.
Three juvenile passengers, ages 4, 5, and 8, were also injured. The 4 and 5-year-olds were airlifted to UC Davis Hospital, while the 8-year-old was transported to a local hospital by ambulance.
The suspected driver, Eileen Teresa Joanne Fred, 22, of Lakeport, was taken to a local hospital before being arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence and felony child abuse. She was booked into Lake County Jail early Thursday morning, with bail set at $85,000.
Northbound lanes of State Route 29 were closed to facilitate medical operations and the investigation. Alcohol impairment is suspected as a contributing factor in the crash.
