Driver Faces DUI Charges Following Head-On Collision with Motorcycle.

A Winder man was arrested for DUI following a head-on collision involving a motorcycle in Baldwin at 8:15 p.m. on May 23.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, 68-year-old Robert Wallace was driving a 1998 Chevrolet Lumina the wrong way on GA-15 near Professional Drive. The Lumina collided head-on with a 1999 Kawasaki motorcycle, which was ridden by 25-year-old William Etheredge of Washington, Georgia. The Lumina then struck a 2005 Toyota Tacoma, driven by 49-year-old Blong Lee of Commerce, on the passenger side.

Etheredge was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville for injuries sustained in the crash. Wallace was taken to Habersham Medical Center for complaints of injury.

Authorities charged Wallace with DUI, having an open container, driving with suspended registration, and operating without insurance, in addition to several traffic violations.

This incident occurred four hours after another motorcycle accident in Rabun County resulted in two fatalities. So far this Memorial Day holiday weekend, eleven people have died in automobile accidents on Georgia’s roads, with the 78-hour travel period concluding at midnight tonight.
