Driver Identified Following Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash on State Route 59 in Washington County.

A 24-year-old man was killed in a multi-vehicle crash on State Route 59 on Friday afternoon, authorities said.

Dallin Mangelson of Washington County was fatally injured at approximately 2:41 p.m. near milepost 14 when a speeding driver passed illegally in oncoming traffic, initiating a chain reaction of collisions.

Mangelson was driving a Chevrolet Malibu westbound when a Chevrolet Avalanche swerved to avoid the black car, overcorrected, and struck Mangelson’s vehicle on the driver’s side. He was airlifted to a hospital with critical injuries and later succumbed, officials confirmed.

A motorcyclist, Jared Fredrickson, was also critically injured while trying to avoid the chaos. He was thrown from his motorcycle after clipping a vehicle in the incident. Two others were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the black car that caused the incident remains unidentified, and authorities continue to search for them. The Utah Highway Patrol and Washington County Sheriff’s Office are leading the investigation.

According to family members, Mangelson was the youngest of five siblings, pursuing his first marathon while enjoying boxing and running.

Anyone with information about the driver is urged to contact local authorities.
