Two electric motorcycle riders were injured, one fatally, in a crash with a sedan in Burbank late Tuesday night, police said.
The incident occurred around 11 p.m. at the intersection of Alameda Avenue and Hollywood Way. Burbank police found a male and female rider ejected from their motorcycle, both suffering serious injuries, authorities said.
Both were transported to a trauma center, where the man was pronounced dead. The woman remains in critical condition, authorities confirmed.
The drivers of the sedan stayed at the scene and cooperated with police. Authorities noted there were no signs of impairment from drugs or alcohol.
Preliminary investigations suggest unsafe speed by the motorcyclists may have been a contributing factor, according to authorities.
This incident follows two recent e-bike fatalities in California, one in Huntington Beach and another in Camarillo.
Authorities underscore that the rising popularity of e-bikes among younger individuals has been linked to an increase in severe accidents.
Data from UC San Diego indicated that from 2018 to 2024, e-bikes were involved in at least 4,035 collisions statewide.
