HONOLULU (Local News Wire) – A 45-year-old e-motorcyclist involved in a late-night crash in Makiki has died, according to authorities.
Ryan Vaughn was critically injured in the incident at approximately 11:50 p.m. on Saturday at the intersection of Punahou and Clark streets.
The Honolulu Police Department reported that Vaughn was traveling against traffic in the southbound lanes when he collided with a 65-year-old driver making an illegal U-turn.
Vaughn was ejected from his motorcycle and sustained severe injuries, reportedly while not wearing a helmet. He was transported to a hospital by Honolulu Emergency Medical Services.
On Wednesday, officials at the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office informed police that Vaughn had succumbed to his injuries.
The driver involved remained uninjured and at the scene following the crash.
Investigators have not yet determined if speed, drugs, or alcohol were factors in the incident.
This marks the 25th traffic fatality on Oahu in 2023, a decrease from 46 fatalities at this time in 2022.
