Motorcycle Accident Claims Life of East Hall High Coach
HALL COUNTY, GA — Victor Vega, 54, was killed in a motorcycle accident on the morning of May 6, 2025, at approximately 7:45 a.m.
The crash occurred at the intersection of Old Cornelia Highway and Jesse Jewell Parkway. According to the Georgia State Patrol, Vega was riding a Honda CMX 300 eastbound on Jesse Jewell Parkway when a Chevy Suburban, driven by 57-year-old Maria Escobedo of Gillsville, turned in front of him. Vega collided with the front bumper of the SUV and was ejected from the motorcycle, after which the Suburban ran over him.
Emergency medical personnel transported Vega to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, where he was pronounced dead.
Troopers reported that Escobedo failed to yield while turning. An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
The Hall County School System expressed condolences, stating, “We are deeply saddened today by the loss of teacher and coach Victor Vega of East Hall High School. Our prayers go out to the Vega family, the students and faculty at East Hall High School, and the East Hall Community.”
A crisis team is stationed at East Hall High to support students and staff affected by Vega’s passing. He taught business and served as an assistant coach for the softball and baseball teams since joining the school in 2022. Vega also advised the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) at the school and collaborated with the Atlanta Braves to develop young players.
