Eric Kovach dies in crash on Parsons Avenue in Columbus, according to police.

A high-speed motorcycle crash in Columbus’ South Side resulted in the death of a 45-year-old man.

According to the Columbus Police, the incident occurred at the intersection of Parsons Avenue and East Woodrow Avenue, involving a motorcycle and an SUV. The motorcyclist, identified as Eric Kovach, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said Kovach was riding a 2005 Kawasaki Ninja 250R motorcycle northbound on Parsons Avenue when he collided with a 2012 BMW X5 driven by Kahlil Robinson, 45, who was preparing to make a left turn. Senior medics reported Kovach was ejected from his motorcycle upon impact.

Emergency responders arrived shortly after 6:22 p.m. and pronounced Kovach dead at 6:26 p.m. The intersection was closed for several hours as investigators gathered evidence.

Witnesses reported that Kovach was traveling at high speed, estimating his speed at around 100 mph, and ran a red light prior to the collision. Investigators have spoken with two witnesses, with one stating they observed the motorcycle weaving through traffic shortly before the accident.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to gather details surrounding the crash.
