Fairbanks Motorcyclist Critically Hurt in Collision with Truck.

FAIRBANKS — A motorcycle accident on University Avenue near the Holiday House Apartments on Friday afternoon resulted in serious injuries and extensive traffic delays.

At approximately 2:41 p.m., Robert Harte, 51, was stopped on his 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle in the inner lane, preparing to turn left into his driveway when he was rear-ended by a 2000 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by 17-year-old Austin Sayre of Fairbanks. The collision occurred in the two inner lanes of the four-lane thoroughfare.

Harte, wearing a helmet, sustained critical injuries and was transported by ambulance to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition, according to authorities. No other vehicles were involved, and authorities confirmed that no alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.

Emergency responders, including the ALASKA BUREAU OF HIGHWAY PATROL and city police, closed the inner lanes of University Avenue for forensic mapping and investigation, causing traffic delays for over three hours.

Sgt. Rick Roberts of the ALASKA BUREAU OF HIGHWAY PATROL encourages any witnesses to the accident to contact him at 451-2258.
