WINDOW ROCK — Two women died in a head-on collision on June 29 while traveling to a family camping trip near Window Rock, according to police.
Farmington Police Chief Steve Hebbe confirmed that Stacy Peters, an evidence technician, and her sister Justine were killed in the crash, attributed to a suspected drunk driver.
The accident occurred at approximately 2:41 p.m., impacting local road traffic. Authorities have not released further details on the number of vehicles involved or potential lane closures. Emergency medical responders were dispatched to the scene, but both women were pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
“Her loss has deeply affected our department and our records division in particular,” Hebbe stated. The Farmington Police Department temporarily closed its records division in light of the incident, a closure that continued as staff processed the news of Peters’ passing.
Peters, who served for nearly three years in the department, is survived by two adult daughters and an extended family.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing, and updates will be provided as they become available.
