A driver was killed in a fiery crash on Highway 20 in Nevada County early Saturday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The incident occurred around 4 a.m. as the vehicle was traveling eastbound, east of Scotts Flat Road. The driver veered off the road, struck a tree, and subsequently caught fire.
Emergency responders extinguished the flames; however, the driver did not survive the incident. The identity of the deceased has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
Authorities stated it is currently unclear whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
