WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Two people were killed in a crash involving two SUVs and a motorcycle on Oleander Drive Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Wilmington Police Department (WPD), emergency responders were dispatched to the scene around 1:45 p.m. in the 5900 block of Oleander Drive.
Initially reported as a single-vehicle incident, WPD confirmed that two SUVs were also involved. The occupants of one SUV sustained only minor injuries.
The motorcyclist, identified as 22-year-old Tacoma Reda of Wilmington, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in one SUV, 62-year-old Ofelia Landa of Wilmington, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and later died.
WPD officials stated that preliminary investigations suggest the motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed, with witnesses estimating speeds of 90 to 100 mph.
The WPD Traffic Enforcement Unit is currently investigating the incident. Lane closures were in effect during the response and investigation.
