Fatal E-Bike Crash in Arenac County Claims Life.

A 41-year-old woman died after a crash involving an electric bike and a vehicle in Moffatt Township.

According to the Arenac County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred at approximately 12:32 a.m. on M-76 near the O&M Mobile Home Park. Authorities identified the e-bike rider as Dana Brooke Quigley, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other driver fled but was later located by deputies in the area. Charges are anticipated, though specific details have not yet been disclosed.

An accident reconstructionist has been called to assist with the investigation. The sheriff’s office received support from the MICHIGAN STATE POLICE, Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Police Department, Mobile Medical Response, and Moffatt Township Fire Department.

Michigan law grants bicycle and electric bike riders similar rights and responsibilities as other vehicle operators. Motorists must exercise reasonable care and maintain at least three feet of distance when passing a bicycle.

Investigators will assess factors such as speed, lighting, visibility, and driver conduct to ascertain fault. Electric bikes in Michigan are categorized into Class 1, Class 2, and Class 3, which may influence the investigation.

Due to the involvement of a motor vehicle, issues surrounding Michigan No-Fault and wrongful death laws may arise. Evidence from the crash scene, vehicles, and witnesses will be critical to the investigation.
