GODLEY, Texas – A multi-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle left one person dead and caused extensive lane closures on North State Highway 171 Saturday evening.
Emergency crews from the Godley Fire Department were dispatched at 6:40 p.m. to the 7600 block of North State Highway 171, where they found two vehicles and a motorcycle ablaze. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office assisted with traffic control as authorities determined the incident was a fatal crash.
By 8:55 p.m., both directions of Highway 171 were closed. Motorists were advised to seek alternate routes due to significant delays. Fire crews cleared the scene just after 10:30 p.m., with the roadway expected to reopen shortly thereafter. However, the Godley Fire Department cautioned drivers to be alert for potential lane or road closures the following day as investigators continued their work.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is leading the ongoing investigation into the crash’s cause.
