WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (KUTV) — A father of three is in critical condition following a motorcycle crash caused by an improper U-turn.
According to the West Valley City Police Department, the incident occurred on Thursday afternoon when a vehicle turned unsafely in front of Jon Lackey, 35, while he was riding his motorcycle.
Lackey was transported to Intermountain Hospital in Murray with severe injuries, including multiple fractures and brain bleeds. Authorities confirmed that he suffered three strokes related to the accident.
His family is anxious as they await updates on his condition. “It’s touch-and-go right now,” his wife, Dominique McClellan, said.
Lackey, the sole provider for the family, recently began a new job and does not have health insurance, raising concerns about medical expenses. “We’re worried about the bills piling up,” McClellan added.
The couple has three children, including a 3.5-year-old and a 22-month-old girl with Osteogenesis Imperfecta, also known as Brittle Bone Disease.
Family friends have initiated a GoFundMe campaign to support them during this challenging time.
Police are investigating the incident. Traffic was impacted during the emergency response, but further details regarding lane closures are not available.
