NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. — A multi-vehicle crash involving five motorcycles and one car occurred Sunday afternoon on Interstate 20.
The accident happened east of Exit 90, leading to a complete closure of the eastbound lanes for approximately 90 minutes, according to the Covington Police Department. Emergency responders reported multiple injuries, with two individuals transported to a hospital via helicopter.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, the incident involved a group of 75 to 100 motorcycles traveling from Fayetteville to Augusta for a permitted ride. An investigation reveals that one motorcycle was traveling at high speed, attempting to keep pace with the group, when it collided with a white SUV. This initial collision prompted several other motorcycles to crash while attempting to avoid the incident.
Authorities confirmed both life-flighted individuals were alert upon arrival at the hospital. Further details regarding the conditions of the injured and the ongoing investigation have not yet been released.
