BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — A three-vehicle hit-and-run crash on I-95 late Sunday night resulted in the death of a 20-year-old woman.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 11:52 p.m. when a 2010 Mercedes-Benz, traveling south, struck an alligator in the roadway. The impact caused the driver of a 2004 Toyota Tacoma to lose control while swerving to avoid the Mercedes, leading to the vehicle overturning and ejecting the driver.
A third vehicle continued southbound on I-95, striking the ejected driver, who was on the road. The Toyota driver, a 20-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene and was not wearing a seat belt, authorities said.
The 58-year-old driver of the Mercedes-Benz remained at the scene. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and no further details on the fleeing vehicle have been released.
