ALBUQUERQUE, NM – A former Albuquerque police officer was sentenced to three years in prison for a fatal pedestrian collision on May 2025.
Ezekiel Florez struck 48-year-old Daniel Trujillo while operating a motorcycle at high speed on Central Avenue near Coors Boulevard, authorities said. Florez left the scene and returned four hours later with another off-duty officer, Krystal Garcia, as a passenger.
Florez resigned from the police department two months post-incident, while Garcia was terminated in September 2025. Florez pleaded guilty to leaving the scene and tampering with evidence; a vehicular homicide charge was dropped.
Motorcycle Accident Closes Lanes on I-40
BERNALILLO COUNTY, NM – A motorcycle accident on eastbound Interstate 40 at mile marker 170 closed two lanes Tuesday afternoon.
The crash occurred near the Carnuel exit around 4:27 p.m., according to a traffic alert from the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office. The motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.
Suspect in I-10 Wrong-Way Crash Held Without Bond
LUNA COUNTY, NM – A suspect in a May 8 fatal wrong-way crash on Interstate 10 was ordered held without bond.
Artem Durnov, 32, is facing multiple charges including aggravated fleeing from law enforcement and driving under the influence. New Mexico State Police reported Durnov was driving westbound in the eastbound lanes when he collided with two vehicles near mile marker 102, leading to one driver’s death.
Judge Jarod Hofacket stated that Durnov poses a continuing danger to the community.
