POLK COUNTY, Ga. — A motorcycle crash on Ga. 101 resulted in the death of 30-year-old Jacob Pearson on June 20.
Georgia State Patrol reported that Pearson collided with a Jeep Cherokee after its driver, Samuel Johnston, attempted to turn left in front of him. Pearson died at the scene.
Johnston has been charged with homicide by vehicle in the second degree and failure to yield while turning left, according to authorities.
Pearson, a U.S. Army veteran and recent college graduate, was heading home to pick up his 6-year-old daughter at the time of the crash. Family members stated he had just left work and was due to switch vehicles.
Pearson’s family noted that his insurance had recently lapsed. They are organizing a fundraiser to assist with funeral expenses and support for his daughter.
The Georgia State Patrol is continuing its investigation into the incident.
