Two Confirmed Dead in Warren Crash on Route 100
WARREN, VT – Two men were pronounced dead at the scene following a collision on Vermont Route 100 late Monday night, August 14.
Douglas Morrill, 61, of Granville, was traveling north when his vehicle collided with a southbound vehicle driven by Harley LaPlante, 37, of Warren. According to the Vermont State Police, both vehicles collided in the northbound lane, blocking the roadway.
Emergency responders arrived shortly after the incident was reported. Both Morrill and LaPlante were pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash is under investigation, and authorities are requesting anyone with information to contact VSP’s Berlin Barracks at 802-229-9191.
Driver Fined After Truck Gets Stuck in Smugglers Notch
SMUGGLERS NOTCH, VT – A tractor-trailer driven by Billy Tolson, 66, of Lorraine, Ohio, became stuck in Smugglers Notch around 11 a.m. on August 15.
Tolson reportedly ignored warning signs, believing he could pass through the area. The Notch was closed for several hours while McRae’s Towing removed the vehicle. Tolson’s employer, Eagle Logistics, received a traffic ticket totaling $2,347, along with 2 points on their record.
Authorities Seek Public’s Help in Motorcyclist Case
CAMBRIDGE, VT – The Vermont State Police are asking for assistance in identifying a motorcyclist who fled law enforcement twice in North Cambridge on August 15.
Police attempted to stop a purple sport bike for speeding; however, the driver evaded capture at a high rate of speed. The motorcycle has been spotted multiple times in the area. Those with information are urged to contact Trooper Cote at the Williston Barracks.
